What is Fright Train?
Fright Train is a single-player third-person survival horror roguelite developed by WildArts Games. Players take on the role of P.A.W. special agent Doug Barker, an anthropomorphic canine operative sent to investigate an anonymous distress signal aboard the L.R.S. Great White, a massive research locomotive speeding across the frozen wastes of East Antarctica.
A typical run tasks players with traversing three distinct train sections while fending off mutated abominations, repairing deteriorating carriages, and enduring sub-zero blizzards. Survival requires scavenging credits, maintaining window shutters and locomotive consoles, manually reloading magazines, and reaching the extraction point on top of the train.

Beginner Guide
Learn the survival loop aboard the L.R.S. Great White: explore procedurally generated cars, scavenge resources, and prepare for enemy waves during storms. Spend credits to open new areas, buy supplies, and upgrade weapons while keeping the train running.
Kick bins, plants, and crates to gather credits for doors and vending machine gear.
Use calm moments to manually chamber loose ammunition into spare magazines.
Access wall-mounted maintenance terminals to patch wear and insert antifreeze canisters.
More details
Push forward across all three sections and extract on top of the locomotive.
Weapons and Upgrades
Use the credits you collect to upgrade your weapons for the fights ahead. Weapon upgrades compete with supplies from vending machines and access to new cars and rooms, making spending decisions part of your survival strategy.
Found in safe room checkpoints to advance weapons through four progressive tiers using credits.
Sealed storage units granting one of three randomized perks per section when unlocked with painted codes.
Max upgrades grant exotic projectile behaviors that alter hitboxes and close-range combat reliability.
Inventory and Reloading Guide
Where you carry an item affects how quickly Doug can retrieve it, making inventory placement a practical combat decision. A magazine stored on your chest is quicker to insert than one carried on your lower back, while medium and large items appear directly on your character.
Provide the fastest retrieval speed at 100 percent, making them ideal for primary active magazines.
Offer roughly 70 percent retrieval speed, well suited for backup magazines and compact utilities.
Slower pockets running at 40 to 60 percent speed that are best reserved for loose ammo boxes and scrap.
Enemies and Weak Points
Some monsters have armor and weak points that reward carefully placed attacks. Enemy behaviors also interact, allowing creatures to support or sabotage one another as you fight through the train.
Aim above the scrap metal mouthguard to score instant cranium kills without triggering sprinting enrages.
Shoot heavily armored targets in the knees to collapse them before finishing with physical kicks.
Flank behind sweeping saw attacks or bait blade swings to sever trailing horde members.
More details
Dodge past rushing explosive pests to let them detonate safely without expending ammunition.
Repairs and Storm Survival
Use terminals to monitor and repair the train's parts so the locomotive keeps moving through Antarctica. Prepare supplies before storms bring enemy waves, and maintain the train to avoid freezing or falling prey to the creatures outside.
Drag a heat pad into your active hand slot and activate it before venturing into the blizzard.
Step through the exterior side door onto the catwalks while monitoring your temperature meter.
Approach the exterior maintenance terminal and hold the interact key until repairs complete.
More details
Return inside the carriage and activate the speed lever adjacent to the door to resume travel.
Campaign Progression and Free Play
Advance through the story by successfully completing five runs. The developer FAQ estimates roughly 75 minutes per run, with three checkpoints, and confirms that finishing the story unlocks free play. Reach the extraction point on top of the locomotive before the train reconfigures itself.
Complete the initial opening mission to master basic movement, aiming, and HUD systems.
Successfully clear five story runs of approximately 75 minutes each across the Great White.
Access the unrestricted sandbox mode from the main menu after clearing the narrative climax.
More details
Adjust enemy spawn parameters and hunt optional cosmetics without narrative constraints.
Patch Notes and Bug Fixes
Version 1.1.5 addresses items disappearing after swapping and using consumables, alongside several other gameplay bugs. It also adds keys 1 through 8 to rebinding options, improves quick-bind number readability, and makes dropped unassigned items easier to spot.
Version 1.1.5 prevents unslotted weapons and gear from vanishing when consumables are swapped in full inventories.
Unslotted weapons dropped during gear swaps now emit visible light beams on train car floors.
Resolves lockups where Knockback boons prevented doors from clearing biological Clam growth.
More details
Normalizes phantom storm spawns and cleanses temporary magazine placeholders from loot pools.
